Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge AR
Sesame Street’s apps never cease to amaze me. I mean it. My little girl and me love them all! I’ve never downloaded a Sesame Street app I didn’t love. They are always fun and exciting, with a light challenge. But, my favorite thing about the Sesame Street apps are how they are jam-packed full of learning! If you haven’t read my reviews yet on Sesame Street’s The Monster at the End of This Book, Another Monster at the End of This Book, The Great Cookie Thief or Elmo Calls, you need to do so! You’ll see how much I love them and exactly why I do! Not that I’m surprised, but they have done it again with Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge AR!
Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge AR teaches your child to spell their name through fun learning methods they will absolutely love! You will first enter your child’s name on the main screen. You can then choose from two AR experiences between watching a special music video that shows Elmo spelling your child’s name, OR, take a picture with Elmo. To do these things, you will need to point your device’s camera at the cover of your copy of Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge DVD or the poster that comes with the DVD. If you don’t have them, the app will just email you a copy of the DVD cover and poster. Doing this allows you to play the game just as if you had these items. That’s what I did. We chose to watch a video and see Elmo spell my daughter’s name. I pulled up the email with a screenshot of the DVD cover on my desktop, and then followed the app’s instructions. As soon as I pointed my iPhone’s camera at the picture of the DVD cover, something incredible happened! A virtual Elmo popped up who was talking and moving around! It looked like he was standing on top of the cover! He eventually began to throw letters up in the air that spelled out my little girl’s name like this {S O P H I A}! It was crazy! I have no idea how this is even possible, but I assume it has something to do with the fact that this app only works with an iOS 5+ device. Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge AR is a seriously cool app, really bringing Elmo to life – allowing your child to engage with Elmo himself! Oh and it took her about three times watching him spell her name, before she had it down pat! The re-use value on this app isn’t as high as the other Sesame Street apps I mentioned above. That’s the only reason it didn’t get a A+ from me; It definitely gets an A, though!
iTunes explains how Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge AR is played in a step by step method:
- Step 1 – Enter your name on the main menu.
- Step 2 – Choose from two AR experiences: watch a special music video and have Elmo spell your name (green button), OR take your picture with Elmo (pink button).
- Step 3 – Point your device’s camera at the Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge DVD cover (Elmo spells your name) OR the DVD poster (take your picture with Elmo). Don’t have either? You can email them directly from the app!
- Step 4 – Don’t forget! You can share your photos with friends and family!
